IT Solutions Engineer

About the Job

We're looking for an IT Solutions Engineer to enhance and complement our IT function to develop and support the delivery of our IT Digital Strategy- a digitally enabled customer focused vision aligned to our Corporate Plan.  The strategy is designed to improve choice for customers, improve support for colleagues, and, improve commercial sustainability. 

Reporting to our IT Services Manager, you’ll work across the IT Services Team and the Digital Transformation Team, the role delivers a balance of 1st and 2nd line support to live IT Services, as well as proactive delivery of new solutions to the business. You'll work on collaboration platforms including PowerApps, SharePoint and Office 365, to create valued solutions to business challenges.

The role is a remote working opportunity, with some infrequent travel required to our offices in Stoke-on-Trent and Lowestoft.

Responsibilities:

  • To promote the technical strategy, develop and implement appropriate technical designs, and provide day to day technical service
  • To work alone, as a team leader or as part of a team, analysing underlying issues arising from investigations into requirements and problems; model business functions, processes, information flows and data structures, using best practice methods and techniques and identify options available for consideration
  • To deliver application design, build and implementation activities to programmes and projects
  • To work with colleagues at all levels across the Group to investigate operational and business requirements and problems, recommending effective business solutions through improvements in information systems, data management, processes, procedures, organisation and technology.  Strong stakeholder management skills are required at all business levels
  • Supporting the roll-out of new applications
  • Testing and evaluating new technology 
  • To lead the management and maintenance of relevant administration portals 
  • To work with the wider IT Service Team to maintain service and triage related incidents within published SLAs
  • To design, build, test and deploy automation processes that are right-sized to meet tactical or strategic requirements 
  • To develop and maintain partnership relationships with key suppliers and technical authorities to maintain own position as technical leader in areas of expertise 
  • To coordinate and lead small teams to deliver change activities
  • To contribute to solution application and operational designs and promote adherence to application strategy and best practice
  • To ensure all work is carried out in accordance with Aura’s strategic direction, cultural fit and published policies (both corporate and regulatory) and challenge all levels of business where this is not the case

Essential Skills

  • Advanced user of Microsoft productivity tools including PowerApps, SharePoint and Office 365
  • Experience of providing quality 1st and 2nd line support
  • Awareness and/or knowledge of security and compliance portals
  • Awareness, conditional access and/or knowledge of Microsoft Azure’s active directory
  • Knowledge of the core Microsoft technologies including networking, DNS, and DHCP
  • Confidence in working strategically and understanding impact 

Desirable Skills 

  • Website dev knowledge – PHP, ASP.Net, HTML, CSS 
  • IIS and Linux stack knowledge
  • Windows Server environments 
  • Virtualisation environments 
  • Active Directory & Group Policy management 
  • Windows 7 – 10 configuration and management 
  • macOS & iOS configuration 
  • Basic SQL commands 
  • PowerShell script  
  • Mobile Device Management 
  • VOIP Phones (Mitel preferable) 

 

Essential Qualifications & Experience  

  • Recognised qualification for role  
  • Experience in comparable roles
